Thousand Stars’, Arbaminch Music and Art Festival Will be held between the 13th and 15th. of December, 2013

The Arbaminch Music and Art Festival is developed to enhance and insure the preservation, celebration, maintenance and transmission of the rich and diversified cultural traditions and practices of the peoples of South Nations, Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia. It is conceived to showcase cultural heritages to generate greater interest and awareness, and promote community cohesion. The main aims are to excite, to inform, and to create better understanding of the worth and potential of multicultural society.

The Arbaminch Music and Art Festival brings performers from the 56 nations and nationalities/ethnic groups of the south and south western Ethiopian communities. The festival is organized each year at the Arbaminch City, South Ethiopia.

Partners of the Festival

The Association for Research and Conservation of Culture (ARCC), the Bureau of Culture and Tourism (BCT) and the Gamo-Gofa Zone Administration and the various offices of the Gamo-Gofa Zone and the Arbaminch town administration will jointly organize the Festival. The funds required to host the Arbaminch Festival is provided by the Christensen Fund (TCF) a USA based organization.

Benefits of the Festival

The festival will provide benefits to communities through activities that contribute to creativity, learning and sense of place and local distinctiveness.

Indigenous music and dances are preserving and transmitting important cultural knowledge across generations. It is recognized that communities and individuals with a strong culture can be more resilient, able to address problems and build sustainable future for their young.

The Arbaminch Music and Art Festival is one of Ethiopia’s most significant cultural celebration events, and a model for authentic, insightful indigenous cultural tourism.
